Dear Writer,
thank you so much for writing a fic for me!
Hurtcomfortex is one of my most beloved exchanges, I simply LOVE hurt/comfort. I may love hurt even more than comfort :D
You’ll find here some general thoughts, general likes, my DNWs, and some thoughts about the individual requests with all the selected freeforms.
I’ve selected pretty similar tags for all requests but I’ll repeat them for each request anyway and will say something about it in each fandom if needed. Though I think they are so concrete that they serve as perfect prompts as it is. And also, combine as many freeforms together as you want as it’s all various flavours of h/c.
General:
- I prefer physical hurt/comfort
(I’m not much into purely emotional hurt/comfort. I mean of course you can make a character feel worried and emotional after coming to terms with own mortality after being shot five times, but pure emotional hurt/comfort is not my cup of tea) - The other thing is I prefer injuries so much more over illnesses.
When there’s a double entry in the tag mentioning “…sick/hurt character…” or “…to hide illness/injury…” I prefer physical injuries. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with the flu and I did read a lot of sickfics. But I think in this exchange you’ll understand that I want moooore than just tea with lemon and a slight fever. I want ICUs and worried friends sitting in hospital waiting rooms, bedside vigils, hurt characters weak and yet still showing their temper, slow and painful recovery etc. (There’s nothing wrong with inflicting the flu on a character already lying in the ICU with some injuries, though… 😇). - As long as you promise me that you won’t kill my fave, I’ll enjoy all their injuries - limb injuries, fractures, amputation, spinal cord injuries, broken ribs, gunshot wounds…, the pain and recovery or adapting to new life.
- It’s probably clear from the freeforms and choice of fandoms that the fics I prefer are all kinda similar :D It’s usually a detective or an agent, usually injured in the line of duty, landing in a hospital with some quite serious injuries, their partner worried out of their mind, the hurt character of course wakes up and the road to recovery begins. And what differs are only the reactions of the hurt character - given their nature and characteristics - but needless to say, they are not happy in the hospital :D
- But I also love mission fics when one character gets injured. It still looks quite optimistic though that with the help of other characters they carry out the mission. Until also the other character gets hurt! Or something else happens.
- These are just the most typical scenarios but feel free to come up with anything else. I will love it. I also love when writers incorporate canon injuries into the fics (and pay them proper attention - unlike the TV writers!) or you can always imagine shiny new ones ;) Or I’d love to get a doctor’s POV sometimes.
- And now after the injury: How does the character’s everyday life look like? How are they coping with the hospital stay/PT/needing help/people staring/noisy colleagues? Do they have to use a cane / crutches / a wheelchair etc.? How will the injury/recovery/adapting influence the character’s friendships, relationships? How will the comfort look like?
- When it comes to describing the injuries I’m ok with any detail of graphic description from omitting it to very very detailed.
- I’ve chosen many & ships, for / ships I’d like to clarify that I don’t need romance and kisses in every paragraph of the fic. I’d love to know that my beloved characters are in a relationship or are trying to get together but I don’t need to see more.
General likes:
In case you’d like to dive really deep into alllll my likes, here’s a Master List I’ve compiled. It’s really really long though, feel free to read just some sections of it or skip it altogether (there’s a pretty long section about hurt/comfort, too).
- canon verse
- missing scenes
- prequel/sequel of a canon scene
- 5 + 1
- case fics
- character studies
- domestic fics
- epistolary
- fluff
- friends to lovers
- friendship fics
- future fics (future of the respective show/book)
- gen fics
- getting together
- humour
- hurt/comfort (mostly physical hurt – preferably from injuries)
- slowburn
- happy endings
- open endings
- second and third person POV
- unusual narrator
- lots of descriptions of the surroundings and atmosphere
- multiple timelines
And here are some little details, flavours, specific tropes I like:
- cooking together
- dancing together
- dark academia
- late night walks
- lazy mornings
- massage (nothing s*xual, just a massage)
- road trips
- slice of life
- taking care of cats together
- trapped in an elevator together
DNWs:
- Alzheimer’s, cancer and coronavirus related themes
- death of any requested character (even if it's canon, unless stated otherwise)
- downright unhappy endings
- E rated fics
- excessive unnecessary violence (i.e. way over what is usual for a given show/book xxx even very detailed descriptions of canon-level violence are ok)
- kid fics (i.e. focus on an original or canon child character, pregnancy and parenthood)
- mentioning body parts typically involved in sexual activities, especially c**k (mentioning “butt” or “breasts” in non-sexual context is ok)
- omegaverse and mpreg
- permanent brain damage
- royal/high school/historic/sci-fi AUs
- sexual content (for / requests: I’m happy my fave characters are dating, I just don’t need to see everything; cuddling and kissing “on screen” is ok)
- supernatural elements, magical realism, fairies, ghosts and anything connected to magic in real world canons especially in case fics
(these are real world canons for a reason ;) I LOVE case fics where the reader can play along and where it’s possible to find out/guess the solution based on presented evidence, dialogues, common sense and knowledge of the real world without resorting to some magical happenings; human magicians doing tricks are ok)
1) Cormoran Strike Series - Robert Galbraith
Robin Ellacott & Cormoran Strike (Cormoran hurt)
Robin Ellacott/Cormoran Strike (Cormoran hurt)
Fandom specific DNWs: extensive references to canon cases
What I love about the series:
I love crime novels. There's no other genre I read as often and as excitedly as crime novels. I love the investigation process, I love racing with the detectives to catch the murderer. Though these books are even more than this. I usually don't like the romantic tension "will they date, won't they date" but here I've completely fallen for it! I really really neeeed them to be happy and together.
I have to admit that so far I've read only the first two books - The Cuckoo's Calling and The Silkworm. But I've read countless fanfics so I know about the evolution of the relationships and work and about the private lives so feel free to set the fic at whichever time from the whole series; of course it can also be a future fic or set at unspecified time. Though I would prefer if the fic didn't contain any hints to the cases from the books I haven't read (because I want this to be a surprise while reading).

- Injury on Top of Old Injuries
- Injury Recovery
- Old Injuries Acting Up
- Recovery from injury - A helps B with physical therapy/rehabilitation
- Seeming fluff that’s actually bittersweet due to surrounding circumstances of the character's injury
The tags, predictably, center around Cormoran’s leg or a possible new injury sustained maybe during a new investigation or car crash or just anywhere else. And Robin and Cormoran’s unique relationship on top of that …
- How’s Robin helping Cormoran with his leg?
- What can he do and what he can’t do?
- What if Cormoran didn’t leave the Army after the injury? How would he meet Robin?
- I’d love to know what the seeming fluff could be?
- Anything else!
2) Criminal Minds (US TV)
Derek Morgan & Spencer Reid (hurt Reid)
feel free to add other canon or original characters, i.e. Gideon, Rossi, Hotchner, Elle, Emily, Garcia, Seaver, Diana Reid… (I’m more familiar with the first half of the series)
Fandom specific DNWs: focus on the unsubs and their methods, Mr Scratch and Henkel
I love Dr. Reid with all my heart. I’m not that interested in the parts with the unsub, when we see what they are doing but I do like the investigation, how everyone has their expertise, how they cooperate, how sometimes one of the profilers has a surprising piece of knowledge stemming from their hobbies or personal lives. And I absolutely love how they finalize the preliminary profile and then have the briefing with the local police. And I also like the flights and their discussions there… And I love Dr. Reid! And I love hurt/comfort.

Here I mainly focused on Reid’s injury from season 5 when he was shot in the leg and also his mysterious headaches from season 6. (I’m not that interested in the injury from season 15…)
- I’d love to know more about the headaches because in TV it just kinda faded away without any real explanation (IRL Matthew Gray-Gubler was contemplating leaving the series and the writers were preparing the possibilities for him to leave and one of the possible reasons was Reid’s cancer, but please no cancer here)
- What if the season 5 injury was more serious than shown in canon. Reid knowing more about his injury (at least in theory) than his doctors could also be interesting. Will he be counting probabilities about successful surgeries and recovery? (it’s also interesting to catch up on the real story, MGG severely injured his knee in a dancing accident)
- We know that Reid writes letters to his mom every day… Does he write to her about his injury?
- A new injury! What happened?
- Anything else!
3) CSI: NY
Danny Messer/Lindsay Monroe (Danny hurt)
Don Flack & Danny Messer (Danny hurt)
Don Flack/Danny Messer (Danny hurt)
feel free to add other canon or original characters - i.e. Mac, Stella, Sid, Hawkes, Adam…
Fandom specific DNWs: Ruben storyline
What I love about the series:
The original CSI had the weirdest cases, CSI: Miami was sunny but maybe too much Hollywood-like-perfect, CSI: NY was the normal one. And I love that. All the sneak peeks into the hectic life in such a big modern city, kinda typical - but not stereotypical - characters: former soldier, a local kid, skilled detective… Sometimes you don’t need dark and twisted plots all the time, I think there was a nice balance between the personal lives and “normal” cases. And then there’s Danny and his smile and his glasses.

- Helping hurt character to dress/undress
- Injury Recovery
- Old Injuries Acting Up

- Seeming fluff that’s actually bittersweet due to surrounding circumstances of the character's injury
Here I concentrated on Danny’s injury from season 6 when he was shot and it was uncertain he’d be able to walk again.
- I love the caring side of Lindsay or Don, and would love to see them comfort Danny
- Recovery after a canon injury but make it longer ;) Danny was injured at the end of season 5 and in season 6 episode 7 he’s ok?! I’d love to see more from the PT or the recovery to be longer. Just one pep talk from Hawkes and that was it?
- Danny said there was a ten-per cent chance he’d walk again. What if he didn’t recover?
- Exploring other canon injuries - eg. from s03e03 when the drug dealers kidnap and beat Danny (and Adam)
- Anything else!
4) House M.D.
Robert Chase & Gregory House (hurt House)
Robert Chase/Gregory House (hurt House)
Lisa Cuddy & Gregory House (hurt House)
Gregory House & James Wilson (hurt House)
Gregory House & James Wilson (both hurt)
Gregory House/James Wilson (hurt House)
Gregory House/James Wilson (both hurt)
feel free to add other canon or original characters: i.e. Cameron, Foreman, Taub, Kutner, Thirteen, Stacy…
Fandom specific DNWs: focus Vogler and Tritter, focus on Wilson's cancer
What I love about the series?
I love everything about House. An “unlikeable” main character, cynicism and irony, crime case-like approach to medicine...
I have to admit that the first three seasons were the best in my opinion. I'm much more familiar with the first six seasons… I know all the important events that happened afterwards (but we can totally make a deal that season 7 and 8 didn’t ever happen, especially not the whole House/Cuddy breakup, car “accident”, prison etc.)
Tags and prompts:
- 2AM talk in the kitchen after a nightmare/insomnia
- B Tends to and Massages A after they have a Chronic Pain Flare Up
- Character A has disability/chronic illness flare up and is comforted
- Character A ignores injury/pain/illness until they can't anymore and is comforted
- Character A is self-conscious about their scars; B touches them for comfort and affection
- Character A offering massage to Character B
- Character hiding chronic pain gets caught showing signs of pain
- Character who's usually good at hiding their chronic pain is in too much pain to hide it
- Character With Chronic Pain Receives Comfort and Has Needs Tended to By Loved One On Bad Pain Day
- Difficult recovery after an injury
- Having to use a cane / crutches / wheelchair etc.
- Helping hurt character to dress/undress
- Hurt character is reluctant to accept help
- Injury on Top of Old Injuries
- Injury Recovery
- Old Injuries Acting Up
- Recovery from injury - A helps B with physical therapy/rehabilitation
- Seeming fluff that’s actually bittersweet due to surrounding circumstances of the character's injury
- Traumatic canon event that happened to Character A happens to Character B instead
Of course, this is all about House, his leg and his pain.
- When it comes to canon portrayal of his pain I prefer the first three seasons. But you don’t have to concentrate only on this. House did many crazy things that resulted in other injuries, other crazy things just happened to him… or you can come up with new injuries ;)
- I just simply love Wilson or Chase or Cuddy taking care of House.
- You can explore House’s rehab immediately after the infarction or we can fast forward to seventy year old married House and Wilson complaining about old age and more pain ;)
- I find the “seeming fluff that’s actually incredibly bittersweet due to surrounding circumstances” tag very interesting in this fandom. What could it be? Breakfast in bed. So sweet. But it may be because House is in a lot of pain and character B doesn’t want to make him get up. Or anything else! I’m curious.
- House & character B strong friendship even in their worst moments
- And what about an AU where it’s Cuddy or Chase or Wilson who suffer the infarction
- Anything else!
5) Lewis (TV)
James Hathaway & Robert Lewis (hurt Lewis)
James Hathaway/Robert Lewis (hurt Lewis)
Feel free to add other canon or original characters.
What I love about the series?
I like the clever and mysterious plot, the settings, I like how - at least at first glance - different Lewis and Hathaway are. I like Lewis' mentorship but also how capable and skilled Hathaway already is. And I especially like everything about Oxford University and the atmosphere of the city and how it is portrayed in the series.

Maybe my memory is failing me (or I haven’t seen that particular episode) but there wasn’t any significant injury concerning either Lewis or Hathaway, right? Let’s give them some!
- What happened? Was Lewis injured during an investigation or was it an accident at home or a car crash?
- How’s James feeling? Does he want to help Lewis? How does James put up with him?
- Anything else!
6) MASH (TV)
Trapper John McIntyre/Hawkeye Pierce (hurt Hawkeye)
Trapper John McIntyre & Hawkeye Pierce (hurt Hawkeye)
Margaret Houlihan & Hawkeye Pierce (hurt Hawkeye)
Feel free to add any characters, I love them alllll (also feel free to mix in characters who didn’t meet in canon)
What I love about the series?
I can’t even count how many times I’ve watched the series. I appreciate how humorous and fun the series was on one hand and didn't shy away from difficult topics on the other hand. They balanced the fun, OR scenes, anti-war message, and individual characters’ arcs so well. There isn’t a single character I wouldn’t like, I mean Frank for sure wasn’t likable but you have to love him anyway, right? ;) My favourite character is Hawkeye and his blue eyes and humour and professional skills and how human he is.
It really doesn’t feel that the series started FIFTY years ago.

There isn’t one concrete big thing (aka injury) I centered the tags around though Hawkey went through quite a lot of injuries.
- Hawkeye did have his fair share of injuries and illnesses over the course of the show but there’s always room for more. Feel free to explore any canon injury or add some new ones!
- And of course, Hawkeye being a brilliant surgeon himself, will it make matters worse or better? And will the injury have an influence on his career?
- I’m open to so many possibilities here: the fic taking place during the war or a future fic after the war or even transporting the character to a modern-day hospital (or war).
- Anything else!
7) NCIS: Los Angeles
G Callen (hurt Callen)
G Callen & Sam Hanna (hurt Callen)
G Callen & Sam Hanna (both hurt)
G Callen/Sam Hanna (hurt Callen)
G Callen/Sam Hanna (both hurt)
G Callen/Anna Kolcheck (hurt Callen)
G Callen & Arkady Kolcheck (hurt Callen)
G Callen & Hetty Lange (hurt Callen)
Feel free to include other canon or original characters - i.e. Nell, Eric, Gibbs, Vance
(For Callen/Sam I wouldn’t want Sam to be cheating on Michelle, she may simply be out of the picture altogether or they got together after she died or any other scenario you can imagine)
Fandom specific DNWs: Joelle, Mosley, Granger, focus on Deeks/Kensi
What I love about the series:
I love spies, I do love spies so much, I love undercover work, creating the backstories and agents slipping into “fake” characters. And Mr. Callen is the master of the game. I also love men with blue eyes and characters with tough childhood behind them and mysterious past. Basically, NCIS: LA is Mr. Callen for me.
Some of my favourite episodes are: Past Lives, Pusback, LD50, Callen G., Familia, Reznikov N., Matryoshka, The Chosen One, Purity

There have been quite a few times Callen was injured but the writers skipped so much of the recovery and just brushed on it. We need to know moooore. So these tags are applicable to these canon injuries and possible more serious outcomes. And of course to aaaaalll new injuries as well.
- Focus on recovery / alternate outcomes - after Callen was shot five times in Legend, after he rolled over in the car in season one, after he was severely injured in Mexico… etc.
- I love spies and undercover missions and would love to know how B will help injured Callen during one of these
- Or if it’s a non-canon injury (also very yummy) how serious is it? Can Callen still work as an agent? Also, I’d love to know everything about the recovery. Callen is so independent, how will he handle it, that he needs some help. And how will Character B handle it? I love Sams’s tough-love approach.
- So, what happened to Mr. Callen this time? Is he in a hospital? Who’s putting up with him? Mission fic, undercover, case fic would be an awesome background for shiny new injuries.
- With all that’s he been through, Callen gotta be in pain sometimes.
- I just love the cagy, lone wolf Mr. Callen from the first few seasons and would like to read more about him. He trusted so few people but somehow Arkady was among them. Maybe we’ll learn more about Callen working in Russia and Eastern Europe with Arkady in the past. Was he injured? What happened?
- And I also liked the earlier seasons’ dynamics between Hetty and Callen. They respect and understand each other, Callen is trying to find out about his past, Hetty is trying to protect him…
8) The Night Manager (TV 2016)
Jonathan Pine & Richard Roper (hurt Pine)
Jonathan Pine/Richard Roper (hurt Pine)
Feel free to include other canon or original characters
What I love about the series:
I just love everything about it. It's been one of the best discoveries for me - and I've come across this series only thanks to exchanges. I love the suspense, the uncertainty, the thought-through plans, the feeling of danger, all the pretending. I love spies and undercover work and also I love Hugh Laurie; he was such an amazing villain.

When did the injury occur, that’s the question. It could be connected to the injury when Jonathan let Roper’s people hit him… Or it could be a new injury Jonathan acquired while “working” for Roper/being undercover. Or what if they met earlier than in canon, maybe in Switzerland where Jonathan was - in Roper’s words - “hibernating”. Maybe Jonathan didn’t know what Roper was doing and they had an affair? And somehow Jonathan ended up injured. Or it could be a future fic, Jonathan is undercover again and Roper too! Ooor was Roper an agent even deeper undercover all the way along?!
9) SEAL Team (TV)
Jason Hayes/Clay Spenser (hurt Clay)
Jason Hayes/Clay Spenser (both hurt)
Sonny Quinn & Clay Spenser (hurt Clay)
Sonny Quinn & Clay Spenser (both hurt)
Sonny Quinn/Clay Spenser (hurt Clay)
Sonny Quinn/Clay Spenser (both hurt)
Stella Baxter/Clay Spenser (hurt Clay)
Clay Spenser (hurt Clay)
Feel free to include other characters: Ray, Omar, Brock, Trent, Naima, Lisa, Blackburn…
(For Jason/Clay or Sonny/Clay I would prefer Clay not cheating on Stella and Stella just out of the picture altogether)
Fandom specific DNWs: Clay's death, any references to Clay's death [fix-it scenario where Clay survives the gunshot or where the whole event - the phone call etc. never happens very welcome] ; focus on the vet center; focus on canon storylines about traumatic brain injury; focus on Full Metal, Vic, Emma, Rebecca; making Ash more of a negative character than in canon
What I love about the series:
I love the brotherhood, the absolute trust, the unbreakable bond between the SEALs. The way they are so dedicated to the job and can forget all the troubles and just get the things done. I love watching these confident men who can just do anything anywhere anytime they want. I like the way they face their problems. I love Sonny & Clay’s friendship. They are so different and at the first sight, it’s an improbable friendship - and yet they are best friends.I love it when they plan the missions. Everyone weighs in their opinion, they quickly form plans, always have a plan B.
Season 6 episode 8 never happened. Please use canon up to S06E07. (In case you choose the tag Fix-it - Character survives canonical death or Canonical Character Death Replaced with Rescue and Comfort then references to 06x08 are ok).

There’s loooots of h/c potential, such a good show ;) So my tags center around the amputation and other canon injuries, or new injuries from a mission.:
- for Season 6: There was a 3-month-jump in the events in episode 2 season 6 so what happened during this time?
- Clay returning to Bravo with a prosthetic leg. I need to know everything about how it goes! I’d LOVE to see Clay become Bravo 1 one day.
- I loved everything about Manila and Clay’s injury (s02e17). What if Bravo returned from the Philippines after the bombing and was there for Clay instead of Swanny?
- What if “the very real possibility that your operating days will be over” the doctors kept talking about in 2x18 did happen and Clay couldn’t return to the field? (in that case, that man speaks nine languages, wink wink)
- or maybe the Manila injuries are acting up now, on top of everything else
- exploring any other canon injury (like the shot into the chest plate in s02e05 or the leg injury when Clay falls into the hole in season one or when the building collapses in season 5. Man, he’s been through a lot)
- New injury! from a mission, undercover op… What happened? Are they stranded somewhere? Will they get the help needed? What about the prosthetic leg?
- I’m also very curious about the tag Seeming fluff that’s actually incredibly bittersweet due to surrounding circumstances of the character’s injury. What could it be? Breakfast in bed - which is fluffy - but Sonny/Stella/Jason does it so that Clay doesn’t have to put on the prosthetic leg so early?
- I just love Clay so much and I love to hurt him.
I know this is a bit of a paradoxical situation. I’m all for exploring what if Clay couldn’t return to Bravo after the Manila explosion but when it comes to the amputation I’m like the meme man at the blackboard with all the equations around him screaming: I’ve figured it out. Here is a detailed thesis on how Clay returns to Bravo even with a prosthetic leg because I said so :D

What I love about the series:
I like how this series focuses only on three main characters and yet so much mystery about them still remains. I like the clever plot, the banter between Doyle and Bodie and the action scenes; the often complicated plot ideas, spy games, sneak peeks into politics and diplomacy, and especially the cold-war atmosphere.
It is so interesting to watch how Cowley, Bodie and Doyle all have different backgrounds (albeit we don’t have that much info) and it serves as believable reasoning for the different motivation, decisions and behaviour of the characters. And all the action scenes also offer so many h/c possibilities ;)

All of the characters were injured in canon so these tags are applicable to the canon injuries and possible more serious outcomes. And of course there’s always room for new injuries ;)
- Given the canon hurt, the tag Old injuries acting up is especially interesting.
- And of course there is Cowley’s leg. The writers in the later seasons forgot about it but I didn’t ;)
- I’d love to also get to know more about the characters’ past. Will we see Krivas again? What will happen?
- Anything else!
Thank you so much for writing a fic for me.
